They love their pies at the FSA

Last night I attended my monthly NUJ branch meeting, held at the rather grand Friends House Quaker HQ near Euston Station in central London.

Rarely do I venture into London, but when I do I tend to walk rather than take the tube. From Charing Cross to Euston one gets to walk through the Bloomsbury area of London, and there are some very interesting old buildings along the way.

Now and then you also get to see some truly bizarre sights.

Walking down Kingsway, I spotted out of the corner of my eye a huge spherical object waddling down the steps of the Food Standards Agency building. This ‘thing’ – whose species could not be determined with any confidence, let alone its gender – was absolutely enormous.

For this naked fattism I risk incurring the wrath of my friend Peter Ryley, but I must say that after the initial shock had worn off I struggled hard not to burst out laughing, so incongruous was the spectacle before me. I wish I’d had the presence of mind to whip out my mobile phone and take a picture for your delectation.
