There has been a vitally important communiqué from the Swedish presidency of the EU.
“The Lund Declaration – EUROPE MUST FOCUS ON THE GRAND CHALLENGES OF OUR TIME”
is an epistle issued following a two-day
jolly conference attended by 350 scientists, research funding bureaucrats, business people and politicians, who earlier this month gathered in the southern Swedish city of Lund to discuss the development of European research.
Now I’m all for discussing the development of science in Europe, and I have to say that there are a number of positive developments coming out of the European Commission’s Research Directorate. But I’m buggered if I can detect any content in the thousand or so words of the Lund Declaration.
If you accept the challenge and succeed in staying awake through to the final sentence on European leadership and global challenges, kindly let me know what you think.
