Eid in da square, yo!

By my reckoning they’re a week or so late, but, for some reason best known to themselves, London’s muslims chose to celebrate Eid-al-Fitr (the festival which marks the end of Ramadan) today with an impressive rally in Trafalgar Square.

I happened upon this event while cycling back from a shopping trip in the West End, and decided to stop for a while. On stage when I arrived were a couple of young black guys doing their stuff, praising their prophet in song and boom bang rapping rhyme. Not my cup of tea, but it was enjoyable to listen to them while mingling with the crowd.

There was a very positive feeling to the rally, which was clearly well organised. Very colourful too, especially the beautiful young women in psychedelic hijab.

(A belated) Eid Mubarak!
