Nature goes on the attack

A robust response to the climate denialists currently all over the news bulletins can be found in an editorial in tomorrow’s edition of Nature. With a few sharp words based on indisputable scientific fact, Nature summarises why anthropogenic greenhouse gases are almost certainly the cause of observed global warming, and demolishes the denialists’ latest excuse for an argument that measured changes show nothing but natural climate variability. The journal has no hesitation in using such pejorative terms as “denialist”, “obstructionist” and “conspiracy theories”.

Another welcome intervention comes from NASA climatologist Jim Hansen, in the form of an interview published in today’s Guardian. Given that Saudi Arabia and its allies are intent on sabotaging the Copenhagen Summit, maybe Hansen is right to say that the talks are now so compromised, a bad deal would be a disaster.
