An open letter to the Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

I would like to have submitted the following text to the office of prime minister Gordon Brown as an official ‘e-petition’. However, the system is currently closed owing to the general election and civil service rules on political impartiality.

“For the love of fair Albion, will you please do the decent thing and relinquish with immediate effect your positions as leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

“For one thing it pains us to see your obvious mental suffering. But more importantly, and as far as Britain as a whole is concerned, a dignified departure now would pave the way for a grand coalition of progressive forces, with a view to introducing constitutional change that results in a profound and positive realignment of British political life, and consequent strengthening of democracy within these blessed isles.

“In contributing to such a paradigm shift in British politics your personal legacy would be sealed, and the country left forever in your debt.”
