It is little more than an Up yours! strike being waged today and tomorrow by NUJ members working for BBC News. There is not a cat in hell’s chance of management giving way on the pension issue, not least because the workforce is split on the issue, with techies and production staff voting to accept the BBC offer. But journalists are a stroppy lot, and will do whatever they can to undermine their employers. It’s a trade sport.
Still, the strike has this morning had a positive effect, in that Radio 4 listeners have been blessed with the cancellation of the daily broadcast from Aunty’s Holy Department of Ineffableness and Utterly Pointless Wibbling. Sadly, though, I doubt that The Archers will be similarly affected.
