This is not another protest against some megalomaniac Arab dictator, but rather a bunch of indignant Krauts mit PhDs fuming about an aristocratic government minister found to have plagiarised large parts of his doctoral thesis on constitutional law.
The now plain Mr Karl Theodor Maria Nikolaus Johann Jacob Philipp Franz Joseph Sylvester Freiherr von und zu Guttenberg – or Baron Guttenberg, to give him the salutation to which he is entitled by virtue of noble birth – has been stripped of the doctoral degree by the University of Bayreuth. However, zu Guttenberg retains his job as defence minister, and the confidence of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, who remarked testily that she hadn’t hired the popular and charismatic politician come showman as a research assistant.
Germany’s proper doctors (PhDs, that is, not mere medics) are naturally up in arms about the affair dubbed Copy-gate. Or at least they are up in shoes, and have in their tens of thousands been signing petitions and rioting in downtown Berlin.
Luftwaffe 1 is reportedly fueled up and ready to go.
